The Future Of

Our coverage spans entertainment and real world technology and in an unusual day for us, entertainment giant Netflix is bringing us something technological.

A new documentary series called The Future Of which takes a shot predicting advances in real world technology.

An app for translating dog language - "I'm going to eat your homework."

The ability to store data on houseplants - "The dog ate our fuchsias and wouldn't you know it, that's where my homework was saved!"

It covers gaming and the possibility of living in fictional realities, aka the metaverse.

Also the possibility of a digital afterlife ala Prime Video's comedy series Upload.

Hopefully neither stored on tasty houseplants.

Interestingly the synopsis takes aim at dystopian sci-fi.

What if we could look into the future to see how every aspect of our daily lives – from raising pets and house plants to what we eat and how we date – will be impacted by technology? We can, and should, expect more from the future than the dystopia promised in current science fiction. The Future Of… will reveal surprising and personal predictions about the rest of our lives — and the lives of generations to come.

Certainly some sci-fi includes sinister elements but that may be healthy.

Not every individual, corporation or government is saintly and encouraging people to consider potential malicious applications of new technology could rightly considered a public service.

The Future Of will release on Netflix on June 21.
