The 2022 Game Awards nominees have been announced and while fantasy beat sci-fi, it's only by a cat's whisker.

With play-as-a-cat robot assisted futuristic find-your-way-home adventure game Stray impressively netting 6 nominations including Game of the Year, Best Independent Game and Best Debut Indie Game.

Alongside Stray, PlayStation exclusive Horizon: Forbidden West and Nintendo Switch exclusive Xenoblade Chronicles 3 are sci-fi's main contenders with 7 and 3 nominations respectively.

A new category has been added for film and television adaptations of games.

We've included a few of the major categories below with sci-fi nominees in bold.

Cult of the Lamb isn't a sci-fi game but we know the developers are Ozzie and have read many great things about it, so congratulations and also best of luck to them.
