Without giving any reason - just a new poster - Marvel has delayed The Marvels, the film from July to November. In the US the 10th but an Australian date hasn't been announced yet.

Also only in the US at this point, Disney's Haunted Mansion film has been brought forward from August to fill the July slot.

Our understanding is that there can be substantial contractual penalties for film studios making changes like this.

Haunted Mansion is not a Marvel blockbuster.

Cinemas and also other studios not wanting to compete with Marvel will have scheduled accordingly.

In Australia Hoyts presently list only five other new films releasing in July.

What could possibly have motivated this change?

As we commented on just a few days ago, Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania released to abysmal early critic reviews and as we forecast, that dropped further upon release as did Eternals.

Interestingly it hasn't dropped below Eternals.

Yet.

Eternals dropped from 71% to 47%.

Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania dropped from 58% to 48%.

As is so often the case, there is disparity between the critic and audience scores.

Here mirrored - 84% - which probably isn't anything quantum.

How do we feel about this one?

Not overly bothered.

Though we enjoyed the Captain Marvel film, there's the issue of not just mispronouncing Kamala Khan's name, but rubbing salt in the wound and correcting a character in one scene who pronounces it properly.

Did not watch the Ms. Marvel series but would cringe every time her name was misspoken in the film.

Plus as we've mentioned a few times, we're not keen on the multiverse as an ongoing focal point for the MCU as it will be for the current and next phase.

Ok in small doses like an episode every couple of years in a television series but not several years of film content.

The Marvels is now expected to release in Australian cinemas in early November.
