In their 2021 financial report, new owners Krafton have detailed that Subnautica developers Unknown Games are working on a "turn based strategy game set in a sci-fi world" for PC and mobile.

Via twitter Unknown Worlds have also today advertised a position for their next game in the Subnautica universe.

We are looking for a Lead Programmer to help the team build the tech for our next game in the Subnautica universe!

Subnautica is a survival game famous for its lack of weapons and turn based strategy games are full of them.

Could they be making a non-violent turn based strategy game? Most survival games are also full of weapons so Unknown Worlds were in uncharted waters with Subnautica.

Or is the "Subnautica universe" just the wider Unknown Worlds universe which includes their earlier games Natural Selection and its sequel?

Perhaps they're developing the strategy game and are or will be making another Subnautica sequel?

Whatever it is - currently titled Project M - they're hoping to have it in early release later this year.
