X-Men 97 Spring 23
Posted By:

During the San Diego Comic-Con Marvel gave their revival of the 1990's animated X-Men series a Spring (Oz) 2023 release date.

Attendees were also treated to a brief clip of Magneto introducing himself as the new leader of the X-Men.

Its art style will be the same as the original but sharper.

Especially on large screens the original series hasn't aged well in that respect.

And that's pretty much all Marvel shared.

Sticking to the original art style makes sense from the perspective of nostalgia and continuity.

One detail which caught our eye in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness was that several universes looked fundamentally different to our own.

For example, one had the appearance of comic book illustrations.

Neither that nor any of the others we saw shared the X-Men series animated style but their existence suggests that this series could be set in another such visually distinct universe.

So rather than it being an animated series about "real" people, it will be a photorealistic representation of the X-Men in that universe.

Which means that we could see that art style in any of the live-action MCU series or films.

Also that characters from that animated universe could appear in those series or films played by actors in our or other real-looking universes.

Universe hopping America Chavez hasn't been attached to any upcoming content but we wouldn't be surprised to see her in The Marvels which is scheduled for a July 2023 cinematic release.

X-Men '97 is scheduled to release on Disney+ in Spring (Oz) 2023.
