After picking up a bevy of wins at this years The Game Awards, Amazon have announced that a live action series will be made based on fantasy action roleplaying game God of War.
While that news might not immediately strike most people as relevant to science fiction, there are two Stargate connections.
Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby will write and executive produce.
YouTuber SCI-TREK claims to have an inside source at Amazon who says that this pair were contracted to write a proposal for a Stargate reboot, following Amazon's rejection of Brad Wright's pitch.
That they're now publicly attached to another Amazon series potentially lends more weight to that claim.
Christopher Judge recently won Best Performance for the role of Kratos in God of War: Ragnarok at The Game Awards.
No announcements have been made about cast but it being live action, they would have to at least be considering Christopher for the role.
In the games Kratos is white but many of the other characters look like their voice actors, which may have been a conscious design decision with series potential in mind.
During his long acceptance speech, Christopher joked about being the last actor in Hollywood to audition for the role and his surprise at being offered it.
A Spartan born demi-god in the games, being played by an African American might be a slight stretch, but hardly unbelievable.
His father Zeus was able to change both his own shape and that of others.
Maybe he visited Kratos' mother Callisto in the guise of an African man or possibly altered their son's appearance to help hide him from a wrathful Hera.
Circling back to Stargate, Christopher Judge in the lead role for an Amazon series written by Fergus and Otsby could potentially make a continuation of Stargate, rather than a reboot, more appealing to Amazon.
For the potential extra viewers they might bring.
