Lunar-based coming of age story Crater premieres on Disney+ this week.

Set in 2257, it follows the adventures of five teenagers as they take a road trip in a stolen rover to a legendary moon crater shrouded in mystery. This will be their final adventure together as recently-orphaned Caleb will soon to be leaving the moon forever, but the poignancy soon gives way to drama as things begin to go wrong. And of course there’s the mystery of the crater to solve.

Most of the group are born and raised on the lunar colony but one of them is a recent arrival from Earth, with the associated prejudices adding an interesting wrinkle to the group’s dynamic.

The teenage-focussed story is familiar territory for Stranger Thing’s Shawn Levy who produced the move with Free Guy and The Adam Project’s Dan Levine, so don’t assume this movie is just for the kids.

Crater is available from May 12 on Disney+
