A recently released trailer reveals the next Hunger Games movie will be a prequel, featuring a young Coriolanus Snow, the character played by Donald Sutherland in previous films.

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes goes back decades in time to the 10th annual Hunger Games. The younger Snow is a mentor to Lucy Gray Baird, a tribute from District 12 played by Rachel Zegler.

We also get to meet the creator of the Hunger Games, Casca Highbottom, played by Peter Dinklage. He’s joined by the Head Gamemaker, Viola Davis’s character Volumina Gaul. Extra points for the magnificent character names.

The look of Panem also reflects the earlier period, with a starker almost 1970’s feel compared to the glamour of previous films.

Director Francis Lawrence, who delivered the previous films, is also back for the prequel.

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is due in cinemas November 17.
