Australian megastar Cate Blanchett will return to the world of superheroes - but not Marvel's and not as a villain.

Ben Stiller will co-star in and also direct the film.

He had to this say about the prospect of working with Cate:

I’m a huge fan of Cate’s for a very long time. I’m hoping this project will help people to finally take her seriously as an actress.

Yeah that'd be nice, wouldn't it? You're a champion Ben.

What's the film? An adaptation of a 1960s TV show, The Champions:

In The Champions, a plane carrying three UN agents crashes in the Himalayas. The agents aboard are rescued by an advanced civilization secretly living in Tibet who grant them enhanced intellectual and physical abilities. When the agents return to the outside world, they use their new superhuman powers to become Champions of Law, Order, and Justice.

Though not explicitly labeled a comedy, with Ben directing and co-starring that does seem likely.

Cate was helarious in Thor: Ragnarok and this would give audiences enough another opportunity to enjoy her comedic talents.

Though obviously this one is still a very long way from our screens, we eagerly anticipate its arrival.

On the topic of Cate, a few days ago we talked about the curious re-release of a standalone DLC for the sci-fi shooter roleplaying game, Borderlands 2, not realising that there was an associated film in development or that Cate will also star in that one.

The re-release of this DLC, whose titular character appears in the film, makes more sense in this context as a marketing exercise for the film.
