While Everything Everywhere All at Once was tied second for number of nominations (10) at this year's British Academy Film Awards (BAFTAs), it won only Best Editing (Paul Rogers).
Science fiction's only other win came courtesy of Avatar: The Way of Water for Best Special Visual Effects (Richard Baneham, Daniel Barrett, Joe Letteri and Eric Saindon).
Cate Blanchett recently won a Golden Globe for her performance in non-scifi film Tar - a drama about an American lesbian conductor who among other things faces allegations of sexual misconduct.
The film has been criticized by real world German lesbian conductor Marin Alsop as "anti-woman".
