Disney Plus Price Bump

Disney have increased the monthly subscription cost in Australia from $11.99 to $13.99, effective December 8.

That's comparable to the December price increase in the US which was published in August, though without an advertising tier.

Unlike with the previous price increase here, there's no new content, but we're still better off than US subscribers.

Their cheapest option to get both Disney and Hulu content - which we get - without ads, will be in a $31 (oz) bundle including ESPN+ (sports).

So we might expect to see another price rise here and also the addition of an advertising option in the near future.

In case you're thinking they're just greedy bastards, today Disney delivered a weak quarterly earnings report, resulting in a 13% stock price plummet.

They're down 43% from the beginning of the year.

How they could be doing so badly, you might wonder, with all those Marvel films etc.?

Apart from running Star Wars into the ground, they're trying to beat Netflix and are prioritising accruing subscribers over immediate profit.

So they aren't as flush with cash as you might imagine.

Though whether you think the price is fair is up to you.

Reviews.org point out that Amazon just released the most expensive television series in history and haven't increased their subscription from $6.99 a month.

Finder rank Netflix and Disney in second and third places respectively, nearly tied on 34c and 36c per title.

Amazon leads with 6c per title.

Though we don't regard that as painting an accurate picture of value.

Amazon's library includes far more lower grade films and series.
