The evening started well for science fiction with Ke Huy Quan (Everything Everywhere All at Once) and Angela Bassett (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever) winning best supporting actor and actress in film.

Angela's win meant a loss for Jamie-Lee Curtis (Everything Everywhere All at Once) but there can only be one winner in each category.

A few awards were handed out to non science fiction winners.

Michelle Yeoh (Everything Everywhere All at Once) won best actress in a musical or comedy.

The rest of the evening was a bust.

Writer and director duo Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert (Everything Everywhere All at Once) missed out on best director and screenplay.

James Cameron (Avatar: The Way of Water) had also been up for best director, which he won for the original film.

Neither Avatar: The Way of Water nor Everything Everywhere All at Once won in their respective best film categories.

Severance was nominated three times, including for best TV drama, but won none.

Australia's Cate Blanchett (Tar) won best actress in a drama film. There were no sci-fi contenders in this category so we don't begrudge her the win.

Everything Everywhere All at Once is available to stream now on Binge and Prime, and we've had a chance to enjoy it.

Plenty of science fiction properties have taken a stab at the idea of a multiverse, but few tread new ground.

This one is ultra fresh and well executed.
