La Brea Off La Block
Posted By:

Reports earlier this month indicated that shot in Victoria sci-fi drama La Brea had been renewed for a third and likely final season. Shorter courtesy of an impending writer's strike.

Showrunner David Applebaum now contradicts those reports.

We're not planning to wrap it up.

Right now, they’ve given us six episodes. They might add more episodes as this progresses. but there haven’t been any official decisions. A lot of that stuff is still kind of in flux.

While it is possible this is just spin to prevent viewers abandoning the show because of its cancellation, the 2007-08 strike did cause considerable disruption.

Some degree of planning uncertainty in the face of another isn't unbelievable.

On the other hand, we haven't seen the same in relation to any other program that we cover.

But the official word is that the show is not on the chopping block and sometimes that is accurate.

All of The Orville's cast contracts expired and two publicly spoke about the show definitely being over, but the official word contradicted them.

Nearly a year and a half later it remains uncancelled and in limbo.

La Brea's first two seasons are streaming on 9Now.
