You might remember we brought you an unexpected and seemingly overlooked by everyone else gem from this year's US Superbowl Ads - a first, glimpse at AMC's upcoming series, Moonhaven.

Those few seconds of footage showed us the setting but gave no sense of tone. A fresh teaser fills in that blank and it's dark.

We knew from the synopsis that there were sinister elements in Moonhaven:

Moonhaven centers on Bella Sway (McDonald), a lunar cargo pilot and smuggler 100 years in the future who finds herself accused of a crime and marooned on Moonhaven, a utopian community set on a 500 square mile Garden of Eden built on the Moon to find solutions to the problems that will soon end civilization on Mother Earth. A skeptic in Paradise, Bella is sucked into a conspiracy to gain control of the artificial intelligence responsible for Moonhaven's miracles and teams with a local detective to stop the forces that want to destroy Earth's last hope before they are destroyed themselves.

Rather than a utopian community under threat, this teaser portrays them more like a "freaky cult".

We are curious to see this one and not just because it's the first series to put a hobbit (Dominic Monaghan, Lord of the Rings) and a werewolf (Joe Manganiello, True Blood) on the moon.

Moonhaven premieres on AMC+ on July 7.

AMC+ became available in Australia late last year as a subscription service though Prime Video and Apple TV.

Some AMC programs are also picked up by other streaming services here. We'll let you know if we hear that Moonhaven is heading downunder through one of those.
