Game publisher Nacon have released a story trailer for unique action roleplaying game Steelrising.

Players take control of Aegis, an automaton, in an alternate history 1789 Paris in the bloody grip of Louis XVI's mechanical army.

Souls-likes - which this title appears to be - are all the rage right now and Netflix's Arcane series might have given audiences a taste for the French aesthetic.

This could be a very well timed title.

Good though?

Our gaming budget is tight so we research carefully before making any purchase and have looked at three by this developer, Spiders.

The most highly regarded of those is their most recent, Greedfall, which only scored in the 6 to 7 out of 10 region.

That said, their performance is trending upwards and we're curious to see how this one reviews after release.

What little gameplay they've demonstrated is a bit mundane for our tastes - typical bash and boom melee and guns.

Technological marvel factor is certainly there for the player character' body and enemies but lacking in combat.

Though we felt similarly about Elden Ring's magic pre-release with only a very small selection of spells being demonstrated.

After release the full range of those range proved to be jaw-dropping.

Being a smaller studio we doubt Spiders are sitting on that level of awesome but maybe there's at least a modest range of weaponised gadgetry to wow us with.

Steelrising is currently scheduled to release on PC, Xbox and Playstation on September 8.
