Batgirl a No Go
Posted By:

Newly installed DC bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran were queried about the Batgirl film axing while unveiling their plans for the new DC Universe.

Swiftly putting to rest any notion of the nearly completed but shelved film being revived under new leadership.

Peter saying:

I saw the movie. There are a lot of incredibly talented people in front of and behind the camera in that film, but that was not releasable. It happens sometimes.

I think [Warner Discovery CEO David] Zaslav and the team made a bold and courageous decision to cancel it, because it would have hurt DC and those people involved. I spoke to [Batgirl directors] Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah last week — we’d love to be in business with all of them.

A massive social media campaign pushed Warner Bros. to complete, release and promote the Zack Snyder version of Justice League.

At massive cost and it was later discovered some degree of social media fakery.

That’s $73 million while people were losing their jobs at the studio for a director’s cut of a film that already lost hundreds of millions

In the past Warner Bros. have framed the decision as both financial and protecting the DC brand.

Here there's focus on the potential harm it could do to others attached to the film.

Which is true.

One bad film can tank an actor's career.

Social media might be less inclined to promote a course of action which hurts identifiable people rather than only a faceless media giant.
