DC Dishes the Deets

New co-CEO's of DC Studios James Gunn and Peter Safran have finally begun unveiling their precise plans for DC with five each film and television projects.

Also giving the Robert Pattinson The Batman - Part II film an October 2025 cinematic release date.

That film and a few other titles outside of the new unified DC Universe will be part of DC Elseworlds.

In a Twitter video James explains that following Shazam! Fury of the Gods (March), The Flash (June) will reset the DC Universe.

Then there'll be Blue Beetle (August) and Aquaman 2 (December).

This first phase of their 8-10 year plan is called Gods and Monsters.

He details that we can expect to see the same characters in both live action and animated titles (Creature Commandos being the only animated title showcased here) with usually the same actor playing and voicing.

With Doom Patrol freshly cancelled, creator and showrunner Jeremy Carver is now attached to series Waller about Amanda Waller (Suicide Squad, The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker).

He is joined by Watchmen comic book writer Crystal Henry.

Then the "true beginning" of the DCU will be the film Superman: Legacy which is being written by James with a July 11, 2025 cinematic release.

So the reset happens this year but we don't see the new start for another two years?

Mmm.

Next up will be a big HBO TV series, Lanterns, featuring two Green Lanterns Hal Jordan and John Stewart.

Though DC's Lanterns are a multi species corps who operate on an intergalactic scale, he pegs this series as terrestrial (i.e. Earth) based space cop investigation series akin to True Detective.

Next will be The Authority film about a group of superheroes who regard the world as broken and seek to fix it by any means necessary.

Not specifying whether it will feature Wonder Woman, this will be followed by a Game of Thrones style series called Paradise Lost set on the Amazon island Themyscira.

The Brave and the Bold film will introduce the unified DC Universe's new Batman and Robin, with this Robin being Batman's son Damian Wayne.

Cranking up the sci-fi factor, Booster Gold will be a series about a "loser from the future" who travels back in time with advanced technology which allows him to be a superhero so that people will love him.

Tongue in cheek, Doctor Who might describe themselves in a similar manner.

Also heavy on sci-fi Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will be a film where Supergirl is a very jaded character after being raised on a chunk of Krypton and watching everyone around her around die horribly.

Finally a dark origin horror film about and titled Swamp Thing.

That's not their whole plan but effectively paints a more eclectic overture than their Marvel counterpart.

Worth noting is that he describes these ten titles as "just a few" of their plans.

Greg Berlanti recently signed a major new deal to make fresh DC series and we might begin seeing the first of those alongside some of these.
