Submerged Hidden Depths

Originally developed as a Google Stadia exclusive by Canberra indie development studio Uppercut Games, Submerged: Hidden Depths is coming soon to PC (Steam), Xbox and Playstation.

Not just generically soon either. They've just set a date. March 10.

Not having played the original game, Submerged, we almost missed this one as a sci-fi title.

The image accompanying the announcement looks decidedly fantasy.

But pretty and intriguing. Enough so that we came back to have a quick look out of personal interest.

On closer inspection we were delighted to learn that this gorgeous world appears to be not fantasy but rather a drastically altered post-apocalyptic Earth, which puts it in sci-fi territory by our standards.

It looks like plants and animals have mutated, but so beautifully that the apocalypse seems like an improvement.

This and the previous title are peaceful (i.e. no combat) exploration games and with the only historical records being pictograms, players are left to interpret the story.

We are particularly intrigued by this text accompanying an image in a PC Gamer article.

Submerged has identifiable landmarks, but they're all from different real world locations.

So something moved together massive structures from all around the world?

Post apocalyptic whale hoarders?

How would you say that with pictograms?

Interestingly these developers worked on two of the Bioshock games before forming their own studio, which this week we learned Netflix is adapting into a film.

Submerged: Hidden Depths comes to PC, Xbox and Playstation on March 10.
