AI Designed Milk

Artificial Intelligence developing technologies isn't new and something we've commented on before.

But today we have the rare opportunity of being able to showcase one which is available in Australia and relatively cheap at $5 - Notmilk.

As you might have guessed from its name, it's a non-dairy milk equivalent and rather than being some nut, grain or bean ground, roasted and mixed with water to a vaguely milk-like state, this product was developed by an AI called Giuseppe.

Who is getting considerably faster as detailed on the "geek way" explanation of the technology.

The AI takes the molecular composition of meat and dairy based foods and attempts to produce recipes to replicate them using only plant materials.

This Notmilk, their second product, took 10 months to develop.

Their latest (with three in between) is a Notchicken whick took 2 months.

Relying entirely on plant ingredients their products also shouldn't need to be tested on animals - which is an ethical concern in relation to some other new meat-alternative products like laboratory grown meat.

In the realm of non-dairy milks $5 is quite expensive but if you're of a mind to sample rather than just read about wild new technologies, this is going to be easier on the bank balance than a drinks replicator or hover bike.

Speaking of replicators, this AI also has obvious potential in the development of food replicators.

Instead of feeding it pre-packaged nutrient blocks provided by the machine's developer, like the Cana One drinks replicator, it might give you a shopping list of fruits and vegetables it can "eat" to produce whatever you desire.

Notmilk is sold at Woolies and you can check local availability on their website.
