Love the Thunder?

Early reviews are in for Marvel's Thor: Love and Thunder and critics are split with it earning a low for the MCU 71% critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Our having generally found its trailers to be underwhelming, we're not entirely surprised.

One critic, IGN's Tom Jorgensen, has split views on different aspects of the film, saying the romantic comedy element and Jane are handled really well and the first half of the film is fun, but everything else is average and expected.

Scoring it 7 / 10.

Has Marvel Run Out of Steam?

We were stunned by how bad Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is.

Eternals was also sub-par and critics were generally luke-warm on it.

Direct to Disney+ Black Widow was ok, but unremarkable apart from the dining room scene which was so long and tedious we were on the verge of hitting the stop button and forgetting the film when it finally came to an end.

We enjoyed Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

These films represent about half of Marvel's phase four.

What we saw of widely applauded Wandavision was so bad it put us off watching any of the other Marvel series.

Disney's desire to create more Marvel content is perfectly understandable but having not maintained the consistently high quality of the earlier films tarnishes the brand.

Which is a critical one for Disney.

Thor: Love and Thunder releases in Australian cinemas on July 7.

Multiverse of Madness transitioned quickly from cinemas to Disney+ and we might expect the same for Love and Thunder.
