Space Oddity

The first human is likely to set foot on Mars in the coming decades and that's an increasingly popular setting for fiction including 2015 film The Martian and released just this month narrative adventure game Deliver Us Mars.

Romantic comedies rarely tread new ground and even when there's a whole extra planet to work with, Space Oddity's trailer sounds like yet another application of the commercially proven Hollywood formula.

Picard Comes Home

By home our title means Paramount+ rather than the vineyard. They've reached a deal with Amazon to both stream the third season of Picard which begins February 17.

Previous seasons will also be available on the same date and joined later this year by Star Trek: Lower Decks.

This week a look at the crew and villains in the final season of Picard, Toni Collette joins sci-fi in an electrifying new role, new animated series My Dad the Bounty Hunter not just for the kids, Ant-Man and family battle Kang the Conqueror in Quantumania, an extended preview of retro-futuristic action roleplay Atomic Heart and The Rig escapes cancellation carnage.

Dichen Goes Ape

Australian actress Dichen Lachman (Severance, Jurassic World: Dominion, The 100, Dollhouse) has joined the cast of 20th Century's Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.

There are no details at this point about her role but this one is being filmed in Australia. Right now.

Marvel Success Flop

We have long expressed the view that tactical card roleplaying game Marvel's Midnight Suns might have been tailored for too niche an audience.

Now the verdict is in. Bloomberg's Jason Schreier hails it a critical success but commercial flop and reports Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick pointing blame at timing.

Extraordinary Renewal

Slightly preceding their January first season premiere, Disney renewed superhero-envy comedy series Extraordinary and they've now commenced shooting season two.

Despite our title pre screening renewals actually aren't uncommon but in this case their confidence bumps us off the fence.

Skull Crushed

Netflix's lingual plague series Hot Skull has been cancelled.

While we loved the concept and clever title the trailer was brimming over with over-used dialog and left us feeling cold.

Netflix have released a trailer for an upcoming animated comedy series called Agent Elvis which features a jetpacking Elvis on the Moon.
