Glum Golden Globes

The evening started well for science fiction with Ke Huy Quan (Everything Everywhere All at Once) and Angela Bassett (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever) winning best supporting actor and actress in film.

Angela's win meant a loss for Jamie-Lee Curtis (Everything Everywhere All at Once) but there can only be one winner in each category.

WE 2 in US Cinemas

Chinese sci-fi epic The Wandering Earth 2 will release in US and Canadian cinemas, including Imax.

It's a prequel to The Wandering Earth by Chinese sci-fi author Liu Cixin who also wrote best-seller The Three Body Problem.

Sydney Free WB Films

As part of their 100th anniversary celebrations, Warner Bros. is holding a free open air cinema in Sydney's Darling Quarter from January 12 to 29.

Superheroes dominate the second week with the first screening of Black Adam outside of cinemas, plus Wonder Woman, The Dark Knight and "more".

New year, new trailer for Marvel's upcoming Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania.

Really, it looks great but that's only what you expect of a Marvel trailer.

Borderlands Film Update

What happened to the Borderlands film whose trailer was so well received at last year's Cinemacon in April? Then nothing but silence.

Reshoots taking place this March with a different director Tim Miller (Deadpool) because Eli Roth is unavailable.

JUNG_E Trailer

Netflix have released the full trailer for upcoming original film JUNG_E by Train to Busan and Hellbound director Yeon Sang-ho.

Having enjoyed his previous work we were hooked by the earlier teaser but this new footage has reeled us in.

Last month in an interview with French publication 20 Minutes, James Cameron revealed plans to introduce new, naughty Na'vi and more enlightened humans, to flip what we've seen previously.

English publications are reporting on it now but missing something we find noteworthy.

Strange Strange World

One thing we've seen but not previously commented on are widespread complaints that Disney failed to promote animated film Strange World, which resulted in a huge theatrical $100 million (US) loss.

Lightyear not being awesome and some of the Strange World teasers also underwhelming we had assumed that it was just a dud film and Disney had wisely cut their losses. But it having arrived on Disney+ we've now seen it and are puzzled.

In a post-apocalyptic 22nd century, a researcher at an AI lab leads the effort to end a civil war by cloning the brain of a heroic soldier — her mother.

65 Surprise

After a long time hovering on the edge of entertainment awareness without providing any details other than cast and delaying its cinematic release by a year, 65 has surfaced and surprised.

Spoiler alert - midway through the trailer it tells us that the 65 refers to 65 million years ago. This is another time travel to the age of dinosaurs one.
